How it works

A tag on the equipment, a node for coverage.

Every deployment is two parts: a tag on the asset and a node that gives it coverage. The tag reads the equipment's state; the node carries that reading back over low-power radio. Nodes connect by SIM, Ethernet or solar, so a site with no mains and no fibre can still report.

It works with equipment you already have.

A tag attaches to almost any equipment that presents a readable state of change — a contact that opens, a pressure that drops, an output that triggers. That includes older analogue kit with no digital output of its own, and equipment from any manufacturer: nothing here is tied to one vendor's ecosystem. Where an interface is unusual, we adapt the firmware to it. If the equipment shows its state, it can be digitised.

One way by design.

A tag sends; it does not receive. That is a deliberate engineering decision rather than a limitation. A device that never listens cannot be reached, reconfigured or interfered with over the air, so there is no inbound attack surface to defend. It also means the radio only wakes to transmit, which is why a tag can run for years on a battery in a position nobody wants to revisit. Fewer states, fewer failure modes, and behaviour you can predict on site.

Alerts are included, and the threshold is yours.

Alerts are part of the service, not charged per message. Every tag in the range can raise one: a measurement tag when a reading crosses a threshold you set, an event tag the moment the state changes. You decide what matters and where the line sits.

Measurement tags

These read a value continuously — a pressure, a level, a concentration, a current — so you can see it over time and be alerted the moment it crosses a threshold you set.

Every tag in the range both monitors and alerts. The difference between these two groups is what the tag reads: a continuous value, or a change of state.

Pressure

Reports the pressure inside a process line, vessel or system as a continuous reading, so a gradual drift or a sudden drop is visible before it becomes a failure. Common on suppression cylinders, hydraulic and pneumatic lines and sealed vessels.

Air pressure

Measures barometric or enclosure air pressure and reports the reading over time. Used where a room, cabinet or sealed enclosure must hold a stable pressure.

Differential air pressure

Reports the difference in pressure across a filter, duct or barrier, which shows when a filter is loading up or an airflow path is blocked. Typical in ventilation, filtration and cleanroom work.

Temperature

Reports temperature as a continuous reading and flags when it moves outside the range you set. Used on cold stores, plant rooms, server rooms and any process with a safe operating band.

Humidity

Measures relative humidity in the air over time, so damp conditions are caught before they cause corrosion, condensation or spoilage. Common in stores, archives and equipment rooms.

Ground moisture

Measures moisture in the ground or a substrate rather than the air, giving a reading of how wet the material is. Used in soil, structural and civil-monitoring work.

Tank level

Reports the fill level of a tank or vessel as a continuous reading, so a slow draw-down or an unexpected drop is visible without a site visit. Used on fuel, water, chemical and process tanks.

Sound level

Reports sound level in decibels over time and raises an alert when a threshold is crossed. Used for noise monitoring and to catch when a machine, pump or sounder changes its acoustic signature.

Sway & movement

Samples movement over time to show how much a structure is moving or swaying, and how that changes. Used on masts, towers, cranes and temporary works where movement is a safety indicator.

Light level

Reports light level as a continuous reading, showing whether a space is lit, dark or changing. Used to confirm lighting is working, or as a simple proxy for occupancy.

Air quality

Reports an air-quality reading covering particulates and general air condition, so deterioration is visible over time. Complementary environmental monitoring, not a certified safety instrument.

Carbon dioxide (CO₂)

Reports CO₂ concentration in the air as a continuous reading, which indicates ventilation quality and occupancy load. Complementary monitoring only, not a certified life-safety detector.

Carbon monoxide (CO)

Reports CO concentration in the air and flags a rising reading. Provided as complementary, best-endeavours monitoring alongside — never in place of — certified CO life-safety detection.

Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S)

Reports H₂S concentration in the air over time. Used for environmental awareness in wastewater, industrial and confined settings, as complementary monitoring rather than certified gas detection.

AC current

Reports AC current draw on a circuit as a continuous reading, which shows whether equipment is running and how hard. Used to confirm pumps, motors and plant are drawing normal current.

Voltage & power

Reports supply voltage and whether power is present or absent, so a power-on or power-off event and the voltage level are both visible. Used to confirm mains, backup and critical circuits are live.

Resistance

Reports a resistance reading from a connected element or circuit, which can stand in for a range of physical measurements exposed as a resistance value. Used where existing instrumentation presents its state as resistance.

Pulse counting

Counts pulses from a meter or output and reports the total over time, turning an existing utility or process meter into live data. Used for water, energy and flow metering.

Event tags

These watch for a single change of state — a contact opening, water appearing, an alarm activating — and alert you the moment it happens.

Fire

Reads the state-change from a fire or suppression unit and reports off-site the moment it activates or discharges, so a local event is seen remotely. Complementary monitoring that adds off-site visibility; it does not replace certified fire signalling.

Smoke

Reads a smoke detector's state-change and reports it off-site when it triggers. Provided as complementary, best-endeavours visibility alongside certified detection, not as a replacement for it.

Leak & water

Detects the presence of water on a floor or in a bund and reports the moment it appears. Used in plant rooms, comms rooms, basements and anywhere an escape of water does quiet damage.

Motion (crystal)

Uses a crystal motion sensor that reports when movement is detected, sending an alert on the event rather than a continuous reading. Used for intrusion, tamper and unexpected-movement awareness.

Door state

Reports the open or closed state of a door, hatch or panel and alerts on the change. Used for access awareness, secure enclosures and confirming a door has not been left open.

Panic button

Sends an alert the moment a person presses it, giving a simple manual way to raise attention from the field. Provided as complementary alerting, not a certified personal-safety or telecare device.

Dry contact

Reads a volt-free contact on almost any third-party equipment and relays its open/closed state-change off-site. This is the general-purpose way to bring existing kit that only signals locally into the dashboard.

Alarm relay

Reads the state-change of a customer's existing local alarm and relays it off-site, so an alarm that only sounds on site is also seen remotely. The application is alarm monitoring; it adds visibility and does not replace certified life-safety signalling.

Motion (PIR)

Uses a PIR (passive infrared) sensor to detect the body heat of a person or animal moving within its field of view, and alerts on the event rather than reporting a reading. Where the crystal motion tag reports that a piece of equipment has been moved, this one reports that something has moved nearby. Used for presence and intrusion awareness in rooms, compounds, cabinets and unoccupied areas.

What is the ZARC family of tags?

Do you just sell sensors, or a whole solution?

A whole solution. You tell us the problem and the data you need; we deliver the complete system — the tag, the ZARC network, the dashboard and the alerts — built around your equipment.

Are you a reseller?

No. We design and build our own hardware, firmware, software and network, and manufacture to order in the UK. There is no middleman.

Can you deliver something ready-made, or does it have to be bespoke?

Both. We ship solutions we have built before, ready to deploy, or adapt the range to your specific site — either way it is made to order in the UK.

Can ZARC monitor equipment I already have?

Yes. A tag attaches to almost any equipment that presents a readable state of change, including a general-purpose dry-contact tag for kit that only signals locally.

Are alerts included?

Yes. Alerts are part of the service and are not charged per message. Every tag in the range alerts: those that read a value alert when it crosses a threshold you set, and those that watch for an event alert the moment the state changes.

Can ZARC replace a fire or life-safety system?

No. On fire, smoke and gas, ZARC gives complementary, best-endeavours off-site visibility alongside your certified life-safety equipment. It adds visibility; it does not replace certified signalling.
